Insulin decreases the expression of PEP carboxykinase, an enzyme involved in gluconeogenesis, as insulin promotes glucose utilization and storage rather than production.  Insulin action leads to the regulated expression of a number of genes encoding metabolic enzymes. Some of these regulatory events are positive and some are negative on gene expression. PEPCK expression is reduced in response to insulin action. Additionally, expression of fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase and glucose 6-phosphatase is reduced as a result of insulin action. Conversely, insulin action leads increased expression of acetyl-CoA carboxylase, hepatic glucokinase, lipoprotein lipase, and pyruvate kinase.
