Gastrin is produced in enteroendocrine G cells of the gastric antrum and duodenum and exists in 2 forms, little gastrin (17 amino acids) and big gastrin (34 amino acids). Gastrin is responsible for inducing gastric acid production and pepsin secretion. Both forms of gastrin bind to the CCK2 (CCKB) receptor on stomach and gut parietal cells with an affinity equal to that of CCK.
