This statement is true. Type I errors occur when we reject a true null hypothesis, while Type II errors occur when we fail to reject a false null hypothesis. By decreasing the occurrence of Type I errors (i.e. being more conservative in our rejection of null hypotheses), we are more likely to fail to reject a false null hypothesis, therefore increasing the occurrence of Type II errors.
