Tetracycline and chloramphenicol both inhibit bacterial protein synthesis. Tetracycline does so by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, preventing attachment of aminoacyl-tRNA. Chloramphenicol binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting peptidyl transferase.
