Tables should have adequate size, clearance, and space for the placement of equipment or supplies that are necessary for the job (OSHA, n.d.-b). Computer equipment and accessories should be placed so the person can look directly ahead without awkward positioning of the head or neck, and to maintain the wrists in a neutral position with elbows at a right angle. When other types of specialized equipment are used for seated work tasks, or when individuals engage in home or recreational activities performed while sitting, the optimal positioning for the individual includes an upright seated posture, with avoidance of prolonged static positioning, and the ability to move periodically.
