Plantar fasciitis is a condition that affects the plantar fascia of the foot. This thick tissue connects the toes to the heel of the foot and creates the arch of the foot. The tissue continues to attach to the soleus and gastrocnemius muscles of the lower leg and often has a direct relationship to the contraction of these muscles. Working on the lower leg muscles will help relieve the contraction of these muscles which pull on the plantar fascia, making it tight.
