It is important to test your instructions and procedures with representative users because often they may misinterpret what you have written and not be able to perform the task or activity due to poor instructions. To conduct the usability test, give representative users a copy of your instructions and access to the product in question and ask each user to complete a designated activity as you observe each user as she or he reads the instructions and tries to perform the task or complete the activity. You assess the time it takes for the user to complete each activity and identify any points the user appeared confused. Following usability testing, you can also complete interviews with representative users, either individually or jointly, in order to find out their experience with your instructions.
