Geologists have never directly seen, touched or taken samples of rocks from the Earth's core. The deepest borehole ever drilled, the Kola Superdeep Borehole in Russia, reached a mere 7.5 miles deep, which is only about 0.2% of the Earth's radius. The pressure and temperature at the Earth's core are so extreme that it is currently impossible to obtain direct samples. Geologists make inferences about the core based on indirect evidence, such as seismic waves and magnetic patterns.
