Scientists, Studying Skin Microbes, Have Identified Three Unique Strains of the Bacterium

Scientists, studying skin microbes, have identified three unique strains of the bacterium P. acnes., all of which are found on the skin. These bacteria break down fats, resulting an a low skin pH. This low pH is alkaline in nature and makes the environment unfavorable to invading bacteria.
