The Jackson Perkins Company was founded in 1872 to wholesale strawberry and grape plants. But it quickly found its specialty in roses. Today, the firm's research scientists grow and evaluate more than 300,000 rose seedlings each year. It takes 7 to 10 years of hybridizing work to find a handful of the best and hardiest new varieties of roses. In order to help sell flowers, marketing at Jackson Perkins has given fun or recognizable names to specific hybridized roses, including Sweet Intoxication and Pope John Paul II.
Barbara Wiffy at Rose Gardens does not grow her own roses. Rather, she buys them from Jackson Perkins Wholesale, Inc., marks up the prices of the roses, and then sells them to her customers. Rose Gardens is an established customer that buys a lot of roses. Wiffy often places several orders with the company during a month but usually only makes one or two electronic payments to them each month. Following are copies of Rose Gardens' check register for the month and also the bank statement. Help Wiffy reconcile the business account to see what other charges should be added and subtracted from her balance and see if there are any errors in her check register.
