Discuss why the figure was included in the article and why that particular type of microscopy was the method of choice for the research. What other figures would you like to see used in this study? In their 2011 article in Cell, Dubey and Ben-Yehuda describe a method of bacterial communication via intercellular nanotubes. They show that Bacillus subtilis is capable of transferring cytoplasmic components between cells via channels called nanotubes.

The paper includes fluorescence microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images.
