Diabetes is a health condition which is characterized by persistent blood glucose levels above 140 mg/dl for more than two months. It is of two types, type I and type II, also called Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) and non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) respectively. Persons with type I diabetes does not produce insulin, whereas type II is mostly due to resistance to insulin though insulin is produced normally.
