A risk factor is anything that increases the chance of developing a disease of injury. Primary risk factors are those factors which are directly linked to cause of a disease, whereas secondary risk factors are not directly associated with the condition, but together with other risk factors, they increase the chance of occurrence of a disease or pathological condition.
