Outline the signaling events that lead to resistance training-induced increases in muscle growth.
Step-by-step solution
Step 1 of 2
Resistance training leads to increase in the muscle mass/size due to hypertrophy. This increase is due to increased rate of protein synthesis in muscles. However, this hypertrophy is relatively slow process since there occurs muscle breakdown also. Therefore, hypertrophy occurs only when the rate of synthesis exceeds the rate of breakdown.
The rate of increase in protein synthesis during resistance is mainly due to increased rate of translation of proteins than increase in the gene expression.
