Venous return is the rate at which blood flows back to the heart from the tissues. Venous return is the main factor that determines the cardiac output. There are three important factors that regulate the venous return, as given below:

• Constriction of the veins

• Pumping action of the contracting skeletal muscle

• Pumping action of the respiratory system
