Identify the four mechanisms involved in maintaining the blood glucose concentration.

The body needs a constant supply of glucose to perform vital metabolic activities. The main focus of the hormone system is to maintain homeostasis of glucose concentration. The plasma concentration of glucose is maintained through four processes, as given below:

• Glycogenolysis and release of glucose from the liver

• Mobilization of plasma free fatty acids (FA) from adipose tissue to spare plasma glucose

• Gluconeogenesis

• Block glucose entry into cells and force the substitution of FFA as a fuel
