Bioenergetics is defined as the study of energy transfer within living systems. Living beings perform various metabolic activities during which there is transfer of energy from food stuffs into a biologically usable form.

Food stuffs contain relatively large amount o f potential energy called high energy bonds. The energy trapped in the high energy bonds is converted into mechanical energy or chemical energy again, the study of the dynamics of which is called bioenergetics.
