Exercise 3

Suppose a database manager were to allow nesting of one transaction inside another. That is, after having updated part of one record, the DBMS would allow you to select another record, update it, and then perform further updates on the first record. What effect would nesting have on the integrity of a database? Suggest a mechanism by which nesting could be allowed.

Step 1 of 2

Nesting affects the integrity of the databases

The integrity of the elements in the database is the accuracy and correctness. In nesting, the database user performs the transactions according to the requirement by delaying the precedence of the records.

The nesting will affect the integrity of the databases. All the data values in the database are mutually related. The second record is making changes in the values which are reflecting the values used by the first record. So, the result of the first record is changed.

For example, the interest of the account is calculated on the available balance. If in the second record is changing the balance of the account, then, interest calculated by the first record will be affected.
