Humans are regularly exposed to natural as well as manmade sources of radiation. Natural sources include radiations from the earth’s crust, solar radiations and radiations from the outer space. Manmade sources include industrial processes, medical procedures (such as X-rays, radiation therapies), luminous watches and others.

High levels of radiation exposure for a shorter time period and lower radiation levels when exposed for longer durations have been known to cause benign tumors, precancerous lesions, and different types of cancers, chromosomal aberrations and skin changes.
