The health belief model is a widely used conceptual framework for the understanding of health behavior and to identify the factors that influence an individual to change their behavior. For example, an individual might be aware of the potential adverse outcomes of smoking, but he or she might not be determined enough to quit smoking until unless some personally threatening and serious outcomes are brought into light.
