The investigation of an outbreak requires establishment of the existence of an epidemic or outbreak. Certain perceived outbreaks may actually not be real. The health officials can detect the increase in a disease incidence than the normal levels, however these may not really be accountable at times. Thus, to eliminate these incorrect and doubtful assumptions, it is important to establish the existence of an outbreak using a statistic.
