Disease outbreak is often defined as an epidemic, however it is specifically used when a disease is confined within a specific geographical region and there is limited scope for it. When there is a sudden increase in the incidence of a disease, it is called as an outbreak, in a particular time and place. An outbreak affects a small, localized group of people that reside within a confined region.
