Shigellosis is a communicable infectious disease caused by bacteria Shigella. These bacteria are present in the stools of the infected person during the illness as well as up to 2 weeks after recovery. Inappropriate sanitation leads to the spread of this disease. This infection lasts for 4 to 7 days.
