Instruct a patient in the collection of specimens for occult blood, including an explanation of dietary restrictions for the guaiac test.

Instructions to the patients to collect the specimen for occult blood:

• Obtain the samples from the center of the feces

• Collect the specimen for 3 successive days

• With the help of applicator stick, place the sample in the slide’s front side

• Close the slide, once sample is placed and refrigerate it until delivery to the laboratory

• Two samples might be needed. Based on the doctor’s advice collect either one or two samples as required

• Follow the dietary restrictions
