Increases in the fecal fat are called steatorrhea. To detect the fecal fat microscopic examination is performed on feces.
The followings are the lipids, which are included to perform microscopic examination:

• Cholesterol
The above lipids can be viewed when staining the feces with the following dyes,
• Sudan III
• Sudan IV
• Oil red O
• Generally Sudan III is widely used
