Treating ver y viscous synovial fluid:

In synovial fluid, the most often performed cell count is White Blood Cell (WBC) and the counts of Red Blood Cell (RBC) are not often requested.

• The count process in synovial fluid must be performed as soon as possible to avoid cellular degeneration. Otherwise, the specimen must be refrigerated.

• If synovial fluid is very viscous, then it is required to pretreated by following method:

o Add 0.05% hyaluronidase for one drop in phosphate buffer/milliliter of fluid.

o The fluid is incubated at for five minutes.
