Urinalysis and Body Fluids 6th Edition by Majorie DiLorenzo, Susan Strasinger
Edition 6ISBN: 0803641044The principle of the creatinine reagent pad on microalbumin reagent strips is the:
A. Double indicator reaction
B. Diazo reaction
C. Pseudoperoxidase reaction
D. Reduction of a chromogen
Step 1 of 2
Principle of creatinine reagent pad:
Creatinine detection in urine with the help of reagent strip is applied for microalbumin test.
• The principle is pseudoperoxidase reaction.
Procedure:
• The reagent strip has
(Copper Sulfate) 3, 3’, 5, 5’-tetramethyl-benzidine (TMB) and DBDH (diisopropyl benzene dihydroperoxide).
• Urine creatinine joins with the copper sulfate to give copper-creatinine peroxidase, which reacts with DBDH peroxidase liberating oxygen ions.
• The oxygen ion oxidizes chromogen TMB, change of color from green to blue, finally orange color appears
Therefore, “pseudoperoxidase reaction” is principle of creatinine reagent pad on reagent strip of microalbumin. Hence, the correct answer is option
.
