Step 1 of 2
Names of the “Ketones bodies” present in urine:
Ketones:
• It is a term which signifies three fat metabolism’s intermediate product.
Fat ( lipid) metabolism:
• It is a process of degradation and association of lipids.
• Fat metabolism’s intermediate products are,
o Acetoacetic acid (20%)
o
-hydroxybutyrate (78%)
o Acetone (2%).
• Above said are ketone bodies which are present in urine.
• These compounds are present in same volume in urine.
• Ketones are not normally appearing in urine. It is because fat which is metabolized is reduced to water and CO2 (Carbon dioxide).
• Ketones are detected in excreted urine when carbohydrates are not available in the body and fat is metabolized to produce energy.
