The specimen should be collected immediately after arising, and deliver the specimen to laboratory within 2 hours if not, it should be refrigerated.

First morning specimen brought to laboratory at 1:00 pm affects urinalysis by the following causes,

• Color of the specimen is darkened or modified

• Clarity is decreased

• Odor of specimen is elevated

• pH is increased in specimen
