Drugs that are susceptible to acid degradation in the stomach or those that cause damage to the stomach are administered in the form of enteric coated drugs. Eg: Enteric coated aspirin. The enteric coated tablets are not supposed to be chewed or crushed because, they will either be degraded by the acidic environment in the stomach or cause damage to the stomach. Means, the purpose of enteric coating can't be served if they are crushed pr chewed.

Fluoxetine is an enzyme inhibitor of cytochromeP2D6 (CYP2D6) and imipramine is a substrate for the same enzyme. When both these drugs are combined, the metabolism of imipramine decreases due to the inhibition of CYP2D6 enzyme and its plasma levels increase. Thus, the plasma levels of imipramine inc reases in the presence of fluoxetine.
