Fat embolism usually occurs in case of long bone fractures. When fat globules are released from bone marrow and block the blood vessels it leads to improper blood flow, further the byproducts of fat causes pulmonary embolism and edema. It is symptomized by respiratory distress, tachycardia, fever, confusion, and rash.
Antiembolism hose reduces the chances of the development of blood coats and phlebitis. It is used mainly after surgery. Antiembolism hose are used to prevent pooling of blood in the legs. They reduce the changes of clot formation and prevent the occurrence of thrombophlebitis.

Pivot technique is used while moving a patient, who can bear weight on at least one foot. Generally, this technique is used when only one person is involved. This technique works best when a patient need to move from a bed or chair to a chair, toilet and back again.
Sliding technique works best when the patient needs to move and cannot get up or bear weight on either foot. Flat board like device is used by sliding patients by paraplegic and quadriplegic patients.
Lifting technique is used in case when there is ample help and strength to provide full support to the patient while they move from one spot to another. The back should be kept straight and twisting should be avoided.
