Conflict stands for the situation of strong and serious disagreements or arguments in which parties involved develop loggerheads against each other making the situation worse and complex. Different views of conflict could be described by stating that conflict takes place in every organization but the way managers handle it makes the difference. There are three major perspectives of conflict- traditional conflict, interactionalist conflict, and managed conflict. In traditional view of conflict, any conflict taking place in the organization is regarded as bad, negative and outrightly abusive disrupting the smooth functioning of the organization. While, interactionalist view of conflict sees any conflict as a natural occurrence and likely to take place in any situation or event. In this it is considered that conflicts provide for positive work pressure making teams and employees to perform effectively. And, in managed conflict, an organization prepares itself to manage and counteract with the conflict in such a way that conflict gets resolved without much disruption in a positive manner. A conflict becomes a complex phenomenon when it is taken as abruptly negative and outrightly disruptive for the organizational working and objectives. Instead of taking conflicts as negative phenomenon, organizations should take it naturally and prepare itself to deal with it in a proper manner. This will make the entre conflicting situation controlled and managed without making it complex phenomenon.

The following are the ways using which a team could effectively manage conflict that may arise - • An organization has to prepare itself to manage and counteract with the conflict in such a way that conflict gets resolved without much disruption in a positive manner. • Instead of taking conflicts as negative phenomenon, team takes it naturally and prepares itself to deal with it in a proper manner. This makes the entire conflicting situation controlled and managed without making it complex phenomenon. • The team members in a conflicting situation do not focus upon the conflicting person but focus on the reason for the conflict and the behavior of individuals taking a part in that conflict. • Team members after realizing the cause of conflict plans to retaliate with it by proper actions and follows through that plan. • At last, the conflict gets resolved and properly managed making things smooth providing for better team performance.

The conditions under which promoting of competition between groups in an organization could be effective when the teams are not performing enthusiastically and are showing lethargic attitude. In this situation, the organization could announce internal competition between the teams to give their best performance over a particular task and reward the winning team and its members generously. This will enhance the enthusiasm of employees to become an active member of their team. Another situation wherein competition is effective is when the organization has to select best team and members to become a part of a crucial project. And by having an internal competition between teams, the organization is likely to select best employees in achieving a particular task. On the other hand, intergroup competition could be disruptive when the teams are performing smoothly and are achieving good success at their defined responsibilities, and in between the organization announces the internal competition between the teams. This will make the teams to divert their attention from their responsibilities and concentrate over the competition and winning at it disrupting their assigned tasks.
