Communication stands for the process of passing information and message from the sender to the receiver using various communication channels and mediums ensuring information is passed properly. It is said that the way communication used to take place 20 years back has changed dramatically. This could be explained by stating that earlier there used to be quite few communication channels like telephone, emails, letters etc. But today the communication channels have burgeoned to a high level and organizations possess large number mediums to pass their information towards the intended people. The nature of the change that has taken place in the communication methods could be described as drastic and as the need of the hour. The changes that has taken place have been triggered owing to the increase in the communication among people and the number of messages being sent and received by them. The conventional mediums of communication like telephone, emails, etc. were finding to be insufficient to meet the burden of communicating speedily and in large numbers. This brought the change in the communication channels, patterns and mediums and alongwith this introduction of various communication channels took place.

In the communication process, meaning is in the mind of the sender and the receiver. This could be explained by stating that the message being sent by the sender should be drafted in such a manner that the receiver of the message receives it in the same intended form as that of the sender of the message. There rely chances that the message sent and message received are not taken in a similar meaning by both the parties and to prevent this there is a need to draft messages in simple and comprehensive manner. Examples- A team member sent a mistaken message of early meeting next day and forgot to clarify from the team leader. This created a communication fault wherein the leader messaged the team member to inform other members about a meeting next day, but that team member without clarifying with the leader messaged others about early morning meeting. In this there are high chances that the team leader might not arrive early morning for meeting owing to the fact that he is unaware of the time of the meeting.

Communication barrier stands for the obstacles and disturbances that affects the communication taking place between speaker and listener. Among all the communication barriers, the most common are noise, use of difficult words, being unattentive etc. This is because when two or more people are communicating with each other, noise of any kind or type from other sources is likely to create communication barrier disturbing their conversation. Similarly, when communicators make use of difficult words and the listener are unattentive then this is again likely to create communication barrier.
