Determining Global Periods for Compliant Billing
Using the file named PPRRVU10_U22 found on the CMS website, look up and record the global period for the CPT codes following.
To access the file:
• Go to www.cms.gov and click on the Medicare tab at the top left of the screen.
• Click the Physician Fee Schedule link found in the Medicare Fee-For-Service Payment section.
• Select the PFS Relative Value Files link from the list on the left-hand side of the page. The file can be found by clicking the 2010 link that corresponds to the RVU10C_PCT22 listed on this page. (Note that you may need to scroll through the results to access this file.)
• Download the RVU10C_PCT22 zip file by clicking the Accept button for the user terms and thereby saving the file.
• Double-click the zip file to open it, and then double-click the first of the two files titled PPRRVU10_U22 to open the correct spreadsheet.
• In the spreadsheet that loads, CPT codes will be listed on the left, and a GLOB DAYS column will contain their corresponding global periods.
