Is the grapevine helpful or harmful to most organizations? Should managers try to stop grapevine communication? Why or why not?

Grapevine is the informal flow of communication in any direction throughout an organization. It is considered as a mode of informal communication because it is not official and not sanctioned or approved by the management. This information can begin with anyone in the organization and can flow in any direction.

A grapevine can at times be considered as a negative form of communication. Grapevine may also lead to grouping among employees in the organization which may not always be good for the organization.
