Step 1 of 3

During prolonged and high intensity exercise, the body produces large amount of heat. The heat must be dissipated out to maintain homeostasis. Therefore, the body employs several means to dissipate heat. The most efficient mechanisms is dissipation of heat through skin. Due to large surface area, skin can lose more heat compared to any other organ. Moreover, sweat increases the rate of heat dissipation. The sweat formed uses the body heat to get evaporated, and thus, dissipates a large amount of heat.
