Edition 9ISBN: 0073523534 Exercise 14
Contrast a physiological set point with a behavioral set point related to obesity.
Step-by-step solution
Step 1 of 2
Just like the set points that exist for any negative feedback biological control systems, set points exits for body weight also. However, the body weight set point is a concept rather than reality. According to this, the hypothalamus contains centers associated with satiety and feeding behavior. Biological signals related to blood glucose, lipid signals, weight on feet, and fullness of stomach, send signals to hypothalamus.
If a person’s biological set point were to be increased, the body weight would increase to set the new set point.
