Angina pectoris is chest pain that results from ischemia of the ventricle. Ischemia is death of tissue due to prolonged lack of blood supply. Ischemia occurs due to occlusion of one or more of the coronary arteries. When the heart rate exceeds a certain value, the dead tissue tears off from the remaining tissue during contraction of heart and results in angina pectoris.
