Brain stem: It is a small region of the posterior part of the brain that forms a continuation with the spinal cord. It has three regions namely the medulla oblongata, pons, and the midbrain. It is an extremely important part of the brain. The motor and sensory neurons of the cerebral cortex pass through the brain stem and communicate with the peripheral nervous system.
