Endocrine glands are duct less glands that release their secretions directly into blood. They secrete chemical messengers called hormones that play an important role in regulation of body metabolism. The master control for all endocrine functions is located in the hypothalamus of the brain. Since the endocrine system and nervous system function together, the system is referred to as the neuroendocrine system.
