The cell or an organism performs various physiological processes to maintain life. These processes require energy, which is obtained from the foods an organism consumes. There are various types of foods that an organism consumes. Each of the food types serve definite purposes, of which carbohydrates are used as energy sources. The carbohydrates are ultimately converted into glucose, which is oxidized to obtain energy.
