Epidemiology can be defined as study of determination of states of health, events in the population of humans, its distribution as well as the application of such studies in control as well as prevention of some health related consequences.

The word is derived from a Greek word epi, which means upon, befall and on. Here the prefix is read after suffix and finally it ends with the root. Thus, epidemiology means the study of befalls of the people.

Investigation of epidemiology includes descriptive as well as analytical methods, which draws techniques on statistical for the data that is descriptive as well as evaluation of hypotheses, principles of biology as well as casual theory.
