Edition 2ISBN: 0789753251Evaluate the Practicality of Biometrics
1. Research in greater detail an aspect of biometrics (e.g., palm print recognition) and discuss the practicality of the security control.
2. Are specific biometric devices more realistic than others?
3. If so, what factors determine the reliability of a biometric control?
Step 1 of 3
1. The physical security is related to the protection of the assets of the organization and assures the continuity of the business in the disaster conditions. Safety of property and people, site selection, and security from unauthorized access pertain to the physical security.
Biometric devices are used for the unique identifications of the people. These devices uses a technology for fingerprint scans, voice recognition and iris scan. These devices plays an important role in the physical security of various locations like government buildings, airports etc.
Some biometric devices are given below:
• Fingerprint scanner.
• Door scanner.
• Eye scanner.
• Face scanner.
• Signature verification.
For the full security of the data and assets of the organization biometric security controls are used. For example, the biometric finger scanner is a physical security device but for the authentication of the user, software is used. Software comes under the logical security.
So, the biometric devices are very useful for the security of the organization.
