Indications to perform amniocentesis:

Amniocentesis is recommended during two gestation periods.

Indications to perform amniocentesis during 15-18 weeks of pregnancy:

• Age of mother, whether it is more than 35

• Chromosome abnormalities in the family’s history

• Abnormal chromosome rearrangement is carried by parents

• Parent with metabolic disorder

• Genetic diseases in the family history

• Child with defect in birth or early pregnancy

• Increased maternal serum alpha-fetoprotein

• Unusual triple marker screening test

• Fetal NTD such as gastroschisis and spina bifida in previous child

• More than three miscarriages
