Normal pH:

• First morning specimen has pH of 5.0 to 6.0 which is acidic and pH will be alkaline after taking meals. Hence, normal range of pH is 4.5 to 8.0.

• In normal or abnormal conditions urine pH does not reach 8.5.

• Specimen collection other than single use laboratory supplied containers will make pH of 8.5.

• In improperly preserved specimen the pH will be above 8.5 and the specimen is recollected.
