Describe the appearance and discuss the significance of amorphous phosphates and amorphous urates in freshly voided urine.

Appearance of Amorphous phosphate:

• In freshly voided urine, amorphous phosphates and urates are present normally in small volume.

• Amorphous phosphates react with alkaline pH urine to form white precipitate.

Appearance of Amorphous urates:

• Amorphous urates have uroerythrin pigment.

• It gives pink brick dust in acidic pH urine.

• Small volumes of amorphous urates are seen in normal urine.

• Amorphous urates adhere to urine or mucous and make diagnosis complicated but it can be separated.
