Laboratory procedures to estimate glomerular filtration:

• Timed specimen is used for calculating glomerular filtration rate

• Glomerular filtration rate is reported in millilitres excreted in minute. Hence, number of millilitres of plasma, from where the substance have to be cleared (Creatinine) is removed completely in one minute is necessary to determine

• To evaluate this information, urine volume as mL/minute (V), plasma creatinine concentration as mg/dL (P) and urine creatinine concentration as mg/dL (U) is to be known

• Calculation of urine volume is done by number of millilitre per specimen divided by number of minutes to collect the specimen
