Trace the flow of blood through the nephron and state the physiologic functions that occur.

Nephron:

• Nephrons are present in kidney. They are helpful in formation of urine.

• Each kidney contains millions of nephrons (1 to 1.5million).

Flow of blood through nephron:

• Kidney receives blood from renal artery.

• About 25% blood pumped in heart is sent to kidney.

• Total blood flow in kidney through nephron is 1200 mL/min (milliliter per minutes).

• Total blood flow in plasma range is 600 -700 mL/min.
