NFPA (National Fire Protection Association):
NFPA formed in 1896.This system gives copyrighted standards and procedures for usage of equipment when engaged in hazardous chemicals and gives training to the fire fighters. The overall aim of NFPA is to reduce the fire hazard worldwide.
When a fire occurs in a laboratory, the NFPA system is followed by the fire fighters as it gives all procedures and codes for extinguishing fire.
According to the type of burning materials, NFPA system provides the classification of fires.
• A class fires- fires occurred by wood, paper, fabric, trash
• B class fires- fires by gas, and flammable liquid
• C class fires-electric fires
• D class fires- combustible fire
o Example: Titanium, magnesium etc,
• K or F class fires- fires caused by cooking oils, grease
