Describe LEDs.
Light Emitting Diodes (LED) are small light bulbs based on semiconductor technology. The electrons of a semiconductor diode are brought from a state of high energy to a state of low energy with the energy difference being emitted in the form of light. Until recently, LEDs were used only in single-bulb applications, such as in instrument panels and electronics. Today, LED bulbs are made by clustering many small bulbs encased in diffuser lenses that spread light in wider beams. Bulbs are available with standard bases to fit common household light fixtures.
3
Describe circuit breakers.
Circuit breakers are electromechanical units that automatically disconnect a circuit when the current attains an established value that would cause overheating or a possible fire in the circuit. Examples of occurrences that could cause a circuit breaker to open are excess current flow caused by overloading or a short in the circuit. Circuit breakers are available in a molded case inserted in the circuit at the panel or a large air-type breaker not in a protective case. When a circuit breaker opens a circuit, the breaker is reset by moving the switch handle after the deficiency has been corrected.
